Leaving ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½

Planning to Retire?

If you plan to retire from ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, use the resources below to learn more about the retirement process.

If you are terminating your employment at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, there are a few items to remember to ensure the process goes smoothly. If you are an employee in good standing, you should give your supervisor at least two weeks notice for a voluntary termination.  Staff members who give insufficient notice of termination are not eligible for reemployment.

After giving two weeks notice, you must:

  • complete the Personnel Action Form (PAF) and return it to the HR Records Office
  • return all university property (equipment, work materials, tools, research data/material, notes, etc.);
  • reconcile outstanding expenses, fines and other debts and
  • return keys, identification cards, parking hangtag and other access items.

Vacation, sick time, or holidays cannot extend the last day of employment; an employee must actually work their last day, or the last day of employment will revert to the last day worked. Employees participating in the Hybrid Remote Work Program may not work remotely on their last day.

Review the Termination of Employment Policy and Termination of Employment Procedure for more information.

Exit Interview

ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ wants to better understand what employees value most in their workplace and why they leave. The university encourages you to complete a confidential exit survey.

If you wish to speak to someone in person regarding your work experience, you can contact the HR Service Center at 216.368.6964 or AskHR@case.edu. Feedback is a helpful driver for organizational improvement.

Final Paycheck

Final paychecks will be direct deposited on the normal payday unless otherwise arranged by reaching out to HRRecords@case.edu before the month close.

The final pay for a terminated employee typically will include the following: regular hours worked, any overtime due, and the balance of unused vacation time. Deductions from the final check will be made for benefit contributions and docked time, any outstanding expenses, and fines.

W-2

W2s must be postmarked by January 31st and will be mailed to the mailing address on file on/or before January 31st.

Access to Computing Resources

In most cases (including for ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ alumnus), access to all university computing resources, including network password and ID, will discontinue the date of termination or last day worked. See [U]Tech's Network ID and Account Expiration Policy here.

Updating Personal Information

You should update all personal information (including home and mailing addresses, home phone number, home email address, and emergency contact information) in HCM prior to the effective date of termination. Contact the HR Records Office at HRRecords@case.edu if there is a relevant change in personal information, including mailing address, after the effective date of termination.
