About the Program

Conduct high-impact research in world-class facilities as you pursue your PhD in Chemical Engineering at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, one of the top research universities in the U.S. You’ll not only collaborate with faculty on your research pursuits but also with research leaders around the globe—attending conferences or even participating in fellowships. This in-demand specialty sets you up for success in a variety of different leadership positions in the industry, academia or government research. Our graduates have established careers for themselves at NASA Glenn Research Center in Cleveland and other renowned organizations—as well as around the country at Intel, Texas A&M University and beyond. Should you be admitted to our program, you'll receive a paid research assistantship and full tuition remission. 

What to Expect

Throughout your four years in the program, you’ll conduct research alongside award-winning faculty. You can focus on research areas such as radiochemical separations, biosensors, or electrochemistry, which will be the foundation of your doctoral dissertation. Additionally, you will be at the cutting-edge of technologies for treating diseases, combating climate change, and advancing energy storage solutions. 

As a PhD student in chemical engineering at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, you'll also participate in high-impact research in nationwide research networks known as centers. One such example is the Breakthrough Electrolytes for Energy Storage Energy Frontier Research Center, a place for discovering new ways to synthesize high-energy and power-dense electrolytes for new energy storage systems. 

Your classwork revolves predominantly around chemical engineering transport, thermodynamics, and applied mathematics. But you’ll also participate in professional development classes, which involves a chemical engineering colloquia as well as teaching opportunities.

Admission Requirements

The application process requires:

  • , including a 1-2 page personal statement addressing your intent for pursuing graduate studies in chemical engineering, any previous research experiences, future research or academic interests, career goals and/or involvement promoting diversity, equity and inclusion

  • GRE scores are not required or considered for admission
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in chemical engineering or a related field (either already complete, or will be complete before you enroll)
